White Fillings/ Amalgam Removal

What kind of dental fillings are available at Martin Denistry?

At Martin Dental, we only use safe white filling material never silver/amalgam fillings, Dr Martin has not done ‘amalgam’ fillings in over 25 years. Read more

Do amalgam fillings need to be replaced?

Old amalgam fillings do not need to be replaced unless for cosmetic reasons. However over time these silver fillings do tend to ‘break down’ due to the teeth expanding, shrinking & moving. So it is then that it’s recommended that they be replaced so no cavities start. Read more

Is it safe to remove amalgam?

At Martin Dental we have had over 20 years experience in the removal of amalgam fillings, we use water to flush the silver out and our suction to pick up the excess. None of this is swallowed by the patient & it is removed safely. Read more

Is Penthrox available at Martin Dentistry?

Martin Dental does offer Penthrox as a sedation method. As used by the Queensland Ambulance Service, this is a safe effective sedation. Unlike ‘happy gas’, you are able to drive yourself home afterwards & continue on your day without any ‘groggy’ feelings. Read more

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal Disease is the inflammation of the gums surrounding the teeth. Plaque and calculus are the main causes of gum disease. Read more

What happens if it's left untreated?

If left untreated, periodontal disease (gum disease) will cause bone loss resulting in your teeth becoming loose and eventually needing to be extracted. Read more

Emergency Dental

What do I do if I have a tooth ache after hours?

If you find yourself with a toothache after hours it is best to try at home remedies such as pain relief. Panadol & Nurofen 2 hourly often work great, as do heat packs in some cases. Read more

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

If you or your child has knocked out a tooth it is imperative that you place the tooth back in the hole immediately. Making sure to hold it by the white crown part & not touch the yellow root part. If you cannot put the tooth back in, put said tooth into saline or milk & head into Martin Dental straight away. Try to phone ahead if possible. Read more

Health Funds

Can I swipe my health fund card on the day of my appointment?

Martin Dental has a HICAPS machine on site so we can conveniently swipe your card on the day, saving you an extra trip to your Health Funds Office for refunds.

If I have a Medicare Card can I use it at Martin Dental?

Martin Dental ONLY has authority to use Medicare cards for the Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme. This is not applicable to adults unfortunately.

Fluoride

Is Fluoride good for my teeth?

Fluoride is extremely important to your oral health. It safely strengthens and protects teeth against decay & sensitivity.
